What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system. They are produced naturally within the cells of the body (Endo-cannabinoids) but they can also be extracted from plants and taken as a supplement (Phyto-cannabinoids). The most studied and well known Phyto-cannabinoids are CBD and THC. Continued research has revealed that there are over 100 different cannabinoids present in the hemp plant. These include the less recognized, and perhaps underappreciated cannabinoids such as CBG (Cannabigerol), CBN (Cannabinol), and CBC (Cannabichromene) which all seem to have their own therapeutic effects. What is CBD?

CBD (Cannabidiol) is the most prevalent cannabinoid found in the hemp plant. Unlike THC it has no intoxicating effects. It was discovered in 1940 by Roger Adams at the University of Illinois. Since then, the scientific community has continued its research and found that supplementing with CBD may have some miraculous health benefits. Advocates maintain the belief that CBD can provide relief for conditions such as chronic pain, insomnia, neurological impairments, seizures, inflammation, and even cancer. What is Whole Plant Hemp Extract?

Whole Plant Hemp Extract is derived from the aerial parts (flowers and leaves) of the hemp plant. It contains concentrated amounts of CBD which make up its majority but it also contains a smaller quantity of the 100+ additional cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids that naturally occur in the hemp plant. These plant chemicals work together to provide a greater relief than CBD could provide on its own. Murphy Hemp Company’s Whole Plant Hemp Extract is made with an organic grain alcohol.

What is CBD isolate?

CBD Isolate is a refined hemp extract which has had all other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids removed. The result is a crystalline powder that is 99-100% pure CBD.

Some research suggests that without these accompanying plant compounds CBD is not able to provide the same level of relief and may even damage the endocannabinoid system over time. This is the opinion of the Murphy Hemp Company Team and is why we never use isolates but make all our products with Whole Plant Hemp Extract.

What is Full Spectrum CBD?

“Full Spectrum” used to be a term interchangeable with “Whole Plant Hemp Extract”. However, some companies have developed a process to extract individual cannabinoids, piece them back together, and call it a “Full Spectrum” product. This has caused some confusion in the industry as to what “Full Spectrum” really means. If you’re not sure if the advertised “Full Spectrum” product is what you’re looking for play it safe and buy a product that uses Whole Plant Hemp Extract.

Will I test positive for THC if I use your products?

Our products are made with Whole Plant Hemp Extract which contain trace amounts of THC and there is a chance of it building up within your blood stream and causing you to test positive. Whether or not you test positive will depend on your metabolism and how high of a dose you’ve been taking. If this is a concern check with your employer before using our products. Some employers are adjusting their standards to allow for the trace amount of THC contained in hemp supplements. Hemp, THC, Drug test, Testing, CBD, cannabidiol, Hemp Extract, Cannabis

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

The Endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a system within the body responsible for promoting homeostasis. It was discovered in 1992 by Raphael Mechoulam and continues to be studied today. It’s made up of receptors, Endocannabinoids, and enzymes. Endocannabinoids bind with receptors to trigger a response in the body such as lowering stress hormone levels or decreasing inflammation. Phytocannabinoids extracted from hemp act in a similar way, binding with the same receptors and mimicking the effect of Endocannabinoids. This is why people report experiencing relief from conditions such as anxiety, pain, and inflammation when using a hemp product.

Is Hemp Extract (CBD) safe for pets?

Studies are still being conducted on the use of Hemp Extract for pets but at this time there has been no convincing evidence to suggest it might be harmful to pets as long as it’s given in moderate doses. Most pet owners report only positive results such as relief from pain and anxiety, greater mobility, reduction in seizures, and even reversal of tumor growth.
